Section of Respirology - Application Process
Thank you for your interest in the University of Calgary Respiratory Training Program! We offer a two year training program with the prerequisite of three years of core internal medicine training accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Applications are accepted May thru September for the following academic year beginning July 1st. Interviews are held in September and October. This 18 months is distributed through the two-year program. During the remaining 6 months, additional clinical training or research training may be undertaken.
To apply, we require a letter of interest/intent to be e-mailed or mailed to the Program Director, Dr. John Chan. Following this we require the following for application:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Three letters of reference (one must be from your program director)
- University transcripts
Dr. Chan welcomes e-mails or phone contact during this application process should you have specific questions or concerns that she can address. The interview is an integral part of our selection process and this personal contact is set up through Dr Chan's secretary, Deb Gehlen.
In Calgary, all subspecialty programs compete for the designated ministry funded spots. In the past five years, despite this competitive system, the respirology program has offered training positions to external applicants funded through this mechanism for 4 of those 5 years.
We look forward to hearing from you during the upcoming competition!
