Section of Respirology - Residents and Fellows
Kerri Johannson
comes from Vancouver BC and completed her undergraduate degree in Marine Biology at Simon Fraser University in 1999. She spent three years working in Alaska as a fisheries biologist before deciding to pursue medicine as a career. She came to the University of Calgary for medical school, Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Respirology. Specific areas of interest include interstitial lung disease and environmental exposures and she plans to pursue further training in ILD and Environmental Health Sciences upon completion of her fellowship. She is an avid traveler and naturalist and wants to learn to play the flute.
Brandie Walker
grew up in rural southern Alberta, and pursued her Undergraduate Cellular Biology degree at the University of Calgary. After travelling around Europe and Australia for a year, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Wilf Jefferies to complete her PhD at the University of British Columbia, Biomedical Research Centre. In 2002 she and her husband Greg moved back to the prairies where Brandie started medical school at the University of Calgary. Making travel a priority, Brandie and Greg found time during Med School to explore Ireland (with special attention to the Guinness and Jameson factories) and to Scuba Dive in Hawaii. After medical school, and an amazing trip to Italy where Brandie and Greg enjoyed sampling the wines of Tuscany, she commenced her Internal Medicine residency in Calgary in 2005. Brandie will start her Respirology Fellowship in 2009, having enjoyed a year at home with the newest addition to her family, Jackson. Brandie enjoys spending time hiking with her boys, Greg and Jackson. She also has a passion for travelling and looks forward to embarking on many new adventures.
Tara Lohmann
was born and raised in London, Ontario. She completed both her Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Sciences and her Medical degree at Queen's University in Kingston Ontario. Looking for a change of scenery, she decided to trade Lake Ontario for the Rocky Mountains and moved to Calgary (dragging her husband along for the ride) where she will complete both her Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary Fellowship. While at University, Tara competed on the Queen's varsity Cross-Country and Track & Field Teams, and has also recently completed her first (and hopefully last) Boston Marathon. Now that competitive sports are thoroughly out of her system, Tara prefers to spend her free time in the mountains hiking or skiing with friends and family. She still jogs... occasionally.
